Treasure Hunt Party
Illustrated by Nancy Plummer
Searching for a fun theme for a classroom party? Try a Treasure Hunt Party, which is sure to provide your students with a day full of surprises!

Invitations
Make the invitations from brown paper bags, torn to represent an old map.
Refreshments
Pack goodies in a picnic basket, cooler, or large bag and hide it somewhere in the party area. Give your students a slip of paper with a clue written on it that leads them to a second slip of paper with a clue, that leads them to a third, a fourth, and so on until the final clue leads your students to the goodies.
Pick Your Spot
Make a large treasure map on a big piece of paper. Draw a circle where the treasure is located. Hang the map on the wall. Each player is blindfolded, turned around three times, and given a crayon to make a big X where he or she thinks the treasure is located. Give the players different-colored crayons so they know which X they made. The player who draws an X in the center of the circle, or nearest to it, is the winner.
Treasure Hunt
Before the party, collect old magazines. Divide into two teams. Each team gets a stack of magazines, scissors, a paper bag, and a list of twenty-five objects, such as a car, a bed, and toothpaste. Allow ten minutes for each team to search for the items on the list, cut them out, and put them into the bag. The team with the
most "treasure" in its bag wins.
