Water-palooza!
Illustrated by Sue Barnell
Searching for a fun theme for an outdoor classroom party? Water-palooza offers simple activites for teams of two or more.
Warm, sunny days are perfect for water games.
Boat Floaters
(for two or more players)
Cut pieces of aluminum foil, about four inches square, for each player. Let each person shape a piece of foil into a boat that floats.

Each player, one at a time, takes a turn adding pennies or paper clips to his or her boat. See whose boat can carry the most weight without sinking.
Sink-O
(for two or more players)
Cut several five-inch-square pieces of paper from shopping bags. Cut slightly smaller squares of cardboard. Lay one of the paper squares on top of the water in a wading pool or metal tub, making sure that none of the corners of the paper are turned down. Carefully place a cardboard square on the paper. This is the boat. All players should be given an equal number of pennies. These are treasure chests to be loaded on the boat.
Each person in turn carefully places one of his or her pennies on the boat. The player whose treasure chest sinks the boat or who knocks off another player's treasure chest must add all the sunken treasure to his or her own supply. The first player to load all of his or her treasure chests onto the boat wins the game.
Here's a Hint
Your boat will float longer if you spread the weight of the pennies around the boat.
