Learning the States with Quarters

Objective: The students will be able to research a state and give specific information about their state that was given to them. Grades 3-5

quarters

Initiation: Ask the students if anyone collects coins? Talk about collecting coins and if anyone specifically collects state quarters.

Development: Pass out as many different state quarters as the teacher can collect and give one to each student. Have the student research their state with at least three important facts. Once they have completed their state facts, they can collect other state quarters and continue to find information and present it to the class. As all of the quarters are being collected and researched display the quarters on a classroom map and hang it up until you find all of the states.

Closure: Show the state quarter that your school is from and give three facts about your state that you and the students live in.

Materials: State quarters and a classroom map.

Time: 30 min.
