The Honorable and True Candidate

Students will vote on a character that they believe to be honorable and true using different stories and view points. Grades 1-3

Here's an example, have your students read the The True Story of the Three Little Pigs By Jon Scieska. Discuss the book and talk about the voting process. Discuss the differences and similarities in the pigs' story and wolf's story. Create a ballot for your students to vote on either the pigs or the wolf. Ask them to briefly give examples and reasons on how they chose their candidate. Have them put their ballots in a box, tally the votes on a chart and discuss the results. Ask questions and provide information about the importance of voting and understanding both sides of the story. Relate it to this year's election and candidates.

Here are some other elementary school level books to read that may be helpful:

How The U.S. Government Works by Syl Sobel
America Votes: How Our President Is Elected by Linda Granfield
If I Ran For President by Catherine Stier
